Viewports

Torr Scientific manufactures a range of competitively priced UHV viewports in CF, ISO or KF formats including a variety of coatings to enhance performance. Materials include Kodial (borosilicate glass), Quartz, Sapphire, MgF2, BaF2, CaF2, ZnSe, ZnS 'Cleartran', Ge, Si and Lead Glass. Full transmission, dimensional, optical and temperature specifications can be viewed on the viewport datasheets.
Anti-reflective Coatings
A range of anti-reflective coatings can be processed and optimised to customer specified wavelengths. Theorectical reflectance curves can be supplied on request for particular window material and wavelength combinations. Single 1QWOT 'AR' coating, multi-later broadband 'BBAR' for a wavelength range and 'V' coatings optimised for single wavelengths are provided.

CVD Diamond

Torr Scientific is proud to have been appointed the European agent for optical and thermal CVD diamond processed at The Plasma Laboratory, Hebei Institute of Laser in China. Natural diamond has always been of extreme scientific interest due to its unmatched properties including hardness, thermal conductivity, broadband transparency, chemical inertness and high temperature stability. However, the cost of natural diamond substrates is prohibitive in most cases. The big news in the last two decades is that CVD processes have been developed to the point where economical artificial diamond substrates are now readily available. Torr Scientific is offering CVD diamond substrates in various shapes for use in applications such as thermal mounts and laser windows as well as sealed into vacuum viewport assemblies for high vacuum applications. The CVD diamond performance is very close to that of natural diamond, so customers can now take advantage of thermal conductivity that is five times that of copper and high transparency for optical wavelengths that range from 225 nanometers to beyond 100 microns!
X-ray Anodes

Torr Scientific offers a professional coating service for x-ray anodes used on all the major surface analysis instruments. The company can coat both twin and monochromator anodes used on VG, Kratos, VSW, Leybold, Physical Electronic etc. instruments, using the usual materials Mg, Al, plus the more exotic such as Silver, Zirconium, Yttrium, Titanium etc.. All work is conducted to the highest standards in an ISO 9000 approved company by people who have a strong background in surface analysis related instrumentation and therefore understand the issues of cleanliness and contamination. The latest sputter coating technologies are used to produce clean, pure, strongly adhering coatings, which are very rugged. We offer several different levels of service
-
a simple clean and recoat (to specified thickness) with Mg, Al etc
-
a more specialist recoat including a proprietary barrier layer for more recent instruments using higher powered / stressed anodes, or simply for older instruments to enhance anode lifetime to a full re-tip, cathode replacement and re-build
-
Mono or Twin anodes
-
Silver or copper tips, plus diamond and longer life tips.
Filaments & Filament Assemblies
Torr Scientific offers a range of iridium and tungsten filaments and assemblies for Mass Spectrometry, organic spectroscopy and X-ray sources many of which are coated with thorium or yttrium oxide to improve electron emission. The company specialises in hermetic seals and this technology is used in the manufacture of filament bases. A complete filament manufacturing service is offered or customers' own filaments can be coated to their specification. Rhenium and platinum filaments can also be supplied and iridium wire and strip filaments at very competitive prices. Filaments and filament assemblies are produced for surface science applications including LEED, organic and x-ray spectroscopy and electron microscopy. All work is carried out to UHV cleanliness standards and assemblies can be supplied promptly. Filaments can be vacuum flashed on request. Ionisation gauge heads and replacement filaments for the heads are supplied on request. 0.125 mm and 0.150 mm diameter Iridium wire, plus Iridium ribbon 0.05 mm x 0.7 mm are available on quick leadtimes.
Electro-Optical Components (LEED & RHEED)

Torr Scientific manufactures phosphor screens (LEED & RHEED), micro-channel plate assemblies, time of flight and imaging detectors and fibre-optic face plate seals. The electro-optical products utilise TSL specialities including hermetic sealing, clean assembly and thin film processing. In most cases, products are designed and manufactured to custom requirements.
